Childlike Trust

Trust is such a tricky thing. On the one hand, trust requires complete faith in someone, but on the other hand, trust is earned. Hopefully, the longer we get to know someone, the more we begin to trust them. For me, the most challenging part of trust is the idea that I can no longer be in control. Whether I am trusting a friend with a secret or I am trusting the pilot on a flight, I don’t like not knowing what the possible outcome might be. God, however, has called us to trust in Him in all aspects of our lives.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. - Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

JOURNAL: Write down some areas in your life that you are learning to release control to God.

I remember taking my son to a local playground when he was young. It was amazing to see him run around from one piece of equipment to the next. The joy that was on his face was beautiful as he went down the slide or ran across a swinging bridge. Then everything changed when he began to climb onto a tower that was a little bit higher than he was expecting. The joy on his face began to shift to fear. He looked at me and said, “You’re not going to let me fall are you?” And I said, “Yea buddy, I’m not going to let you fall, trust me.” The fear vanished, and it was back to joy as he continued to climb all the way to the top.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, we tend to lose our childlike trust in God. We begin to seek control of our lives rather than releasing it into His capable hands. Trusting in God is not always easy, but we can trust Him knowing that He is a good father that will take care of his children.

So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. - Matthew 7:11 NLT

ACTIVATION: Start your day by telling God that you trust Him, and remind yourself of times when God led you through a difficult time.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father remind me that I am Your child and You have my best in mind. Help me to release control and trust You with my life.
